Nadim Kobeissi approached us regarding designing a mascot character for a software that he is developing. While I cannot claim to fully understand the software, the purpose is to create a mascot to present a friendlier face for Verifpal. That way, users will not be as intimidated by the potential wall-of-text.

Understanding that Kobeissi is quite partial to the Akira-Toriyama art direction of Dragon Quest, that is the approach we took with the design. Throughout the design process, Kobeissi provided a lot of the creative direction through his vision of how his character, Verifpal-tan, should look like.
Specific in the creative brief, was that the character should be androgynous and unlike other cute characters whom we've designed in the past.
Once the center design was selected, it was onwards to finishing the characters in various poses and chibis for use within the website and manual.
When the character is completed, Kobeissi has a new idea to use a short manga to introduce the readers into the manual. The script and manga layout was provided by Kobeissi himself and in view of the limited timeline, the client also handled the lettering of the manga. That was done really well!
You can download the manual and learn more about the software on this website!
