This piece blurs the line between fine art, sculpture and utilitarianism. This work stands as a gesture to the human figure despite its larger-than-life stature. The extension cord runs up through the lamp’s center of gravity, throwing itself over the sculpture’s apex in order to hang one light bulb. The lit energy dangles, nearly touching the potential energy of the cord, which adds to the tight tension in the piece. Here, the natural human form is straightened with rigid metal, and the man-made light and cord absorb into the only source of organic form.
