A selection of screenshots and examples from a variety of DVD and Blu-Ray menus. The projects range from small productions to large blockbusters, over a wide selection of clients. The deadline for completion typical from concept to deliverable was 1 week.
Enchanted Kingdom - Nature Documentary
Enchanted Kingom is a nature documentary that shows the awe-inspiring beauty and majesty of mother earth.
With this in mind, I designed the menus so that the options blend into the imagery taken from the feature - I felt that this was the most sympathic treatment and the best way to showcase what was to come in the film.
The Two Faces of January - Thriller
The Two Faces of January is a thriller centered on a con artist, his wife, and a stranger who flee Athens after one of them is caught up in the death of a private detective. The cinematography for this film is beautiful and has been coloured to be slightly sepia in tone and I wanted the menus to reflect this. The imagery in this film is also very striking and I wanted it to be prominent in the menus. This disc has since been nominated for a BVA award.
The Anomaly - Sci-Fi Action Thriller
The Anomaly is a sci-fi film that has a futuristic setting involving a battle over mind control and cutting-edge biotechnology.
The main character, Ryan, is taken captive where he learns that he has less than ten minutes to find out why he is wanted dead. I created the menus to play on this and designed them to look like an interface with a continual countdown clock over a fast-paced edit.
Top Gear: The Perfect Road Trip - Comedy Documentary
Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond go on a seven-day road trip from Venice, Italy, to Pau in France.
I designed the menus to follow their progress along a 3D map, cutting away at intervals to show clips from the feaure.
Dangerman: The Incredible Mr. Goodwin - Reality TV
Dangerman is a escapologist who combines the skills of Houdini and superman, putting himself in the most extreme situations and dodging death. I want the menus to reflect this so for this concept, using shards of glass moving across the screen, I showed clips of Mr. Goodwin in threatening situations against tense music.
Bedtime with CBeebies
A collection of stories for little ones at bedtime. I designed the menu artwork to be in keeping with the product packaging and easy for a child to understand within the constraints of the client's brief. I created an edit from the episodes that would entice children to watch the DVD without giving too much away.
Black Veil Brides: Alive and Burning - Music Video and Concert
'Alive And Burning' is Black Veil Brides first recorded live performance, recorded in Los Angeles during the successful Black Mass Tour in support of their self-titled fourth album.
The Riot Club - Drama Thriller
Roughly based on the Bullingdon Club, two first-year students join the infamous Riot Club and the film follows them through their first year at Oxford University.
I designed a few concepts for the menus; the first being set in the devastation of one the Riot Clubs infamous dinner parties and the second set on pieces of paper to play on the text book feel of being at University.
