Singing Sketches
This series of illustrations is an attempt to draw a different music singer each day for March. Each day I would hit random on my Spotify playlist and whatever song would play first I would sketch out the lead singer.
Starting with Eminem's Stan, I drew the rapper as a quick sketch while listening to one of his biggest hits. The style is very rough with harsh shadows, however, I wasn't satisfied with the shading technique. Moving forward I avoided harsh shadows and resolved to switch from a sketchy style to a more linear one.
Moving to sketch 4, I have moved toward a linear-heavy technique. The shadows are now a series of lines to not repeat the same mistake with sketch 1.
Sporting much sharper line art, by sketch 10 I have abandoned shadows and have decided to stick to simple line art and shapes to best capture the artists in my style. I have also adopted a different technique when drawing the eyes as I was unsatisfied with closed lines for the eyes, opting to open them up.
By sketch 15 I have more or less settled on the style for the sketches, however I have still been experimenting with the hair as many of the singers have varying hairstyles.
The final sketch of this project is different from the others. I partly cheated on this piece as I decided I wanted to end this project on by far my favorite singer Jason Charles Miller. Keeping his iconic hat was a lot of fun and balances out the piece well as his magnificent beard cuts through his black shirt. Overall this project was a lot of fun and I plan to create similar projects in the future.
