Abandonment Issues - Concept Art

Project Brief: Research a pre-existing fictional world; from there, create a new element to enter that world that does not already exist and have it relate back to your own life somehow.

The concept for my new component to be added to the Maze Runner realm comes from my first job, where I was working at a new diner (that didn’t do very well) in front of an auto repair shop and behind a set of self-service petrol pumps (which no one understood, so I would be asked constantly to help). I was 16 at the time, and the job felt like torture, working alone at this place because everyone else was fired or had quit. It was the middle of a scorching summer, and I could see the beach, but with 12-hour shifts, I never got a chance to enjoy it. The place had no air conditioning, and working in the kitchen was like an inferno. There were nearly no customers, so the days dragged on. My main question when rewatching the film was how they managed to get fuel for their vehicles outside of the central city, so I decided to create a rundown near an abandoned petrol station connected to an oil rig refinery on site and, of course, a pathetic American-style diner that one person owns and runs, going slightly more insane day by day with the lack of customers.
