Designing a table to fit the counter culture lifestyle of a bike messenger in NYC provided a different perspective on what a table could be. Every item in the life of a messenger looks to maximize efficiency and minimize waste. This multifunctional table serves as a workbench, desk, bench, storage, a bottle opener, and a bike stand. Taking into account that a messenger is always thinking in terms of their bike: the table can easily be broken down into 3 parts in order to easily be transported on a bike.

The materials were chosen for their inherent structural and durability characteristics. The powder coated steel top was chosen for its resistance to rust, scratches, and dents. With a very high strength to weight ratio it was able to become the top as well as the leg from one piece of steel. The Laminated Plywood base adds a soft feel to contrast the steel. The mass and depth of the wood solved several solutions. It supports the span of the perforated steel as well as providing a discreet hidden place to put valuables in the otherwise unpredictable life of a messenger.
