Final Stage Background
I quickly did 3D models of the main parts in Blender. This allows for a lot of exploration of composition and perspective.
I used the 3D renders as a base for a paintover in Photoshop. I kept in mind which elements I wanted to keep separate for animation/parallax when next I implement in Unity.
