For this cover, I experimented with some photography of the sun setting in what is commonly referred to as ‘golden hour’. Kacey Musgraves is known for her mellow, atmospheric music, with inspiration drawn from country music and nature. I felt it was fitting to use nature as the focus of the artwork as it is such a key feature in the inspiration and names of songs on the album. The contrast in the image I took of the golden sun, with the soft blue sky above and the shadowy trees and building peeking in at the bottom creates a more striking piece of design, rather than just light tones. The dark in the bottom also allows for the type to be in black, which contrasts nicely against the sky and balances the dark in the bottom of the image. I opted to play with effects on the photo, and created a looking through glass effect, to keep a level of softness and the feeling of looking at the sun going down out of your window.
