When rioting swept across London in August 2011, the city's small independent shops were the hardest hit. Some of them lost absolutely everything - even their light fittings. So we created De-Loot London, with the mission to make sure not a single independent shop would have to close down.
Using a website, Facebook page and Twitter account, we crowd-sourced a list of all London's looted, local shops and plotted them on a Google map. Then we set to work encouraging Londoners to track down their nearest riot-affected businesses and 'De-Loot' them, by shopping there until they were back on their feet.
Just hours after the launch, #delootlondon was a trending topic on twitter. And in the days that followed, the site racked up of column inches, TV coverage and web articles - getting over £200k free media for the businesses that needed it most.
