UNEP Results-Based Management Online Course

Results-based Programme and Project Management (RBM) is a fundamental principle of UNEP’s operations and a cornerstone of UNEP’s efforts to demonstrate results that are based on evidence in tangible terms. Shifting the focus away from activities, UNEP emphasizes the achievement of outputs, outcomes and impact. and use information and evidence on results to increase learning and adaptive management and to inform decision making on the design, resourcing and delivery of programmes and projects.  

This course is designed to strengthen the ability of programme and project managers and staff to manage by results, through enhancing their understanding of UNEP’s results framework and its overall approach to results-based programme and project management. 
The course is structured around four five modules which include several sessions each, addressing specific aspects of RBM and project management.  

The first module aims at improving understanding of the RBM approach in project and programme cycles: its principles and concepts, especially with a view of the UN reform and what it entails for achieving the SDGs.  
The second module involves project planning and design. , This includes aspects session onf the design of the theory of change, stakeholder analysis and engagement, log frame, and risk management.  
The third module focuses on project implementation, monitoring, and reporting.  
Module four deals introduces sections on UNEP with project evaluations, project completion, and closure. 
Lastly, the fifth module focuses on some of the selected sections in the previous module, such as the Theory of Change, logframe and the stakeholder analysis. In this module examples of real projects are given and suggestions on how to improve them.
