A Teen's Style
Fashion photography is an opportunity to express yourself through clothing. It’s always been easier for me to show parts of my personality by the way I dress. Others might choose a different means, like writing, singing, different forms of art, but I think fashion shows your entourage a part of you that doesn’t need to be said in words. Fashion may be used to make a statement or express how you feel in that particular moment in time. Which means your outfits may change depending on your mood.
More and more teenagers find a way to express themselves through the clothing they wear. My younger sister partook in this series as my model. She chose outfits that she thinks expresses her personality the most. Her choices were colourful and had quite a few patterns. This reflects her happy, positive and charismatic nature. I wanted to capture her unique personality through her choice of clothing through these photos.
Method
With the use of a harder lighting, a plain background and model, I created photos that focused on fashion photography, specifically catalog photography which includes a simple coloured background and few to no props. I changed the outfits in each shot to represent the different styles she has.
Inspiration
Though I didn’t really have any influences for this series, I know each fashion photographer have different approaches to this type of photography and that it varies quite a lot. Fashion photography constantly changes through times and that’s what makes it special and interesting for advertisement. It is used to express and show off clothing brands, in which case I chose to do the expressive part of fashion photography.
