DVB102 Image Design & Production - Assessment 2: Record Cover Project
For this project, the album I chose to redesign is Kacey Musgraves' Golden Hour, released in 2018. This album explores themes of love, life, nature, thankfulness and wonderment through a unique alt-country style. As one of my favourite albums released by Kacey Musgraves, I wanted to explore the songs and meanings on a deeper level and represent this in a new cover design. The concept of my design revolves around the appreciation of nature, and contemplation of her life that Musgraves expresses throughout this album. I wanted to combine these two elements in a way that shows both the beauty and fragility of life. This is further reflected in the watercolour and paper textured background, as well as the typeface and sketched ribcage.
Concept
For the final concept, I drew a ribcage, and added a collage of flowers over where the heart would be. I feel this is the best representation of this album because it shows a simple combination of natural elements and the hand drawn ribcage showing the fragility and how short life is. It also brings together the theme of love and relationships with the collage flowers over the heart. The intertwined font also explores the connected nature of life and the world.
