The Immortal Grêmio
A brief story of the foundation.
Grêmio Foot-Ball Porto Alegrense is one of the most traditional clubs in Brazil, from the city of Porto Alegre in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. The club is also known as "The Immortal"

In 7th September of 1903 the englishman and the germans who played for the city of Rio Branco teams were in a exhibition match in Porto Alegre, during the match the ball deflated, but there in the middle of the spectators, with his own ball, was Cândido Dias da Silva, he gave his ball the players to continue the match, in exchange they taught him the steps to found his own club. And in the very same month, Cândido, along with more partners founded the Grêmio Foot-Ball Porto Alegrense.
Where we are coming from.
Those are the current uniforms, crest and flag. The aspects that i decided to keep were the colors, the vertical stripes in the uniform and the overall shape of the flag, the crest had a radical change to it, but one that i think it reflects more the nickname "The Immortal" that sounds very strong, almost
menacing, so i went for that.

The Redesign.
It is really fun to do football related stuff, especially working with a more traditional concept, as i did in my previous work with Palmeiras, when you delve in the history of how football crests came to be, their origins, it gives you a new perspective on how to approach these things and that end up reinforcing my opinion that the crests should have the shield shape, and it is wrong to make it a "brand logo".

Big changes on the crest are generally not welcomed by the fans, but that because they usually change the shield for a logo (see Juventus, Internazionale, Hellas Verona, Palermo), commercially, it makes sense, but not traditionally, and some traditions should absolutely be held. So this is a new take but one that has its foot in the traditional way, and maybe doing like so would be more welcoming to the suporters.
The Uniform
Both the first and the second uniform are close to the original as mentioned above, the vertical stripes were kept, but now it has the knot pattern to go along, it seems that, recently, kits that have some kind of texture or pattern are more popular, and frankly they do look better.
In conclusion it was nice to do this one, Grêmio has one of the most beautiful jersey in Brazil so this was another great opportunity for me to practice my jersey-making skills and gather some more experience with football crests.

Softwares used: Photoshop CC20, Illustrator CC20.
