Medieval- and Renaissance-themed Illustrations for a Website
Home page illustrations for the nachtanz.org website, which belongs to my husband and myself. We are retired members of the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) and this website contains articles of interest to that community. The first illustration is of a woman and a man in 15th century clothing holding a goblet with a heart between them in a woodcut style. This is a reference to my SCA heraldry, which features three goblets and to my husband’s heraldry, which has a hand holding a heart.
The second and third illustrations depict me and my husband, also in a woodcut style. My character (persona) was 15th century; my husband’s was 16th century and the illustrations for ourselves reflect those centuries. Mine is of a 15th century woman at a desk. HIs is of a 16th century man holding a decorative shield with his SCA heraldry.
15th-Century Doublet Section
One of the articles on the site was an in-depth discussion of the 15th-century doublet including the function of the garments, how it varied from region to region, and basic cut and construction diagrams.
15th-Century Headdress Section
My master's degree thesis was a visual analysis study, similar to a content analysis study, of 15th-century men's headdress. I created illustrations of the different styles of headdress found throughout the period and used them in the revision of my thesis and on the website where I excerpted several sections of the thesis.
