six-steps.org, making financial planning less frightening
Six-Steps was an online initiative that helped people make informed decisions about planning for their retirement. It was based on the simple truth that the various complex and confusing materials aimed at educating people about retirement could be boiled down to six straightforward steps.

We developed the site in partnership with the online communications agency The Group.

We wanted to take action to help consumers understand financial planning. Our aim was to create an experience that was authoritative but always friendly, engaging and unintimidating. The site design is fresh and approachable, with round edges, bright colours, icons and sketches.

We also created a friendly and accessible copy style for the site – it's straightforward and conversational but informative, credible and non-patronising.

The site won a number of awards including the best corporate social responsibility programme at the 2007 Financial Innovation Awards. The awards, organised by the IFS School of Finance, recognise and celebrate effective innovation within the financial services sector.

Judges said: “Aviva impressed with Six-Steps, an accessible, engaging and jargon-free website, designed to provide people with free, unbiased financial information and ideas. This innovation meets a massive, currently unfulfilled need across the population in the UK.”
