Talisker is a world renowned Scotch Whiskey, which was established in 1830.
For a third year University Assignment, I chose to rebrand Talisker, so as to better represent the positioning and identity of the brand. Whilst the current branding is nothing terrible, it is generic to the whiskey market.
I wanted to represent the rich history and meaning behind the Talisker brand in a way that was both unique and modern, whilst maintaining the same level of prestige and class which resonates throughout the Talisker identity.
My rebrand of Talisker is based entirely around the existing heritage, and underlying themes of the brand. This rebrand was about representing this history through a cohesive and unique style, it was not about reinventing the company.
The final lettermark references the “made by the sea” theme through a logo which mimics the flowing nature of waves in the sea, and the windy Skye peninsulas.
The ‘mer-lion’ symbol has also been refreshed so that it can be easily used throughout the branding in a contemporary way, whilst still respecting and referencing the rich Talisker history.
The lion is surrounded by a third branding device, the ‘wave-rope’ pattern which I developed. This pattern is a reference to ancient scottish engravings and art, as seen in my research. The design is built from interlocking waves, joined together to form a rope. This design was set as an illustrator brush so that the pattern could be converted into circles etc.
