Cheeki Mees - so many feels!
Cheeki Mees is a electronic toy very funny that sings, talks and has a lot of weird and funny voices. It's a project I made on Funtastic, on 2017.
The most amazing thing about them it's that they only talks if you tickle its tiny hair on its head! Thanks to a special sensor it only works if you touch it with your hand or if it interact with another Cheeki Mee.
This was one of the first projects I made during my Funtastic years. The toy already existed - named Moji Mi at the first time. We had to do a total new make up because their first version seemed not to work very properly at stores. I had a specific diecut, figures and shapes that I have to work with.
I started changing the colors of the figures, and put some other more related to girls (although it was going to be a toy for both, but 30% boys and 70% girls). Colors like pink, purple or blue become the toy into a more funny thing than the original figures. Mixed with some yellow or green, they'll had the personality I was looking for!
I took this colors and shapes from the figures and brought them to the style guide: the logo had to be very similar to the original, but with a new naming, from Moji Mi to Cheeki Mees. The new one have a more rounded shape and it's more friendly thant the first one, just like I was thinking.
The graphics and background from the style guide are basically made of the characters and the colors. Just because the toys make that funny voices and sounds (in their own invented language) I put a lot of sounds and strange words into the background. With the characters and the sounds there are another important thing there: the colors and shapes, it make the toys look more happy and alive.
I created three different backgrounds. The standard one was mainly for the packaging and the normal communication of the line (like marketing pictures) and it was the main background. There was another background made only for the back side of the packaging, all blue just to make the claims and texts more easy to read. The third background is a dark one, created for using it at the shop displays. They were that way because the packaging have to stand out from the displays.
A lot of references were made of this line: the single one, a reference with two Cheeki Mees on it (to make them talk between each other), one with a purse to keep your toy there, plushes... They were so cute!!
I made even two new series for the future of the line. They were only a first designs (not produced), but I really loved they so much!
