Work-related stress is one of the most challenging issues in occupational safety and health today. It is a growing concern around the world as it has a significant impact on the health of employees, the productivity of organizations and the nation’s economy. According to the Healthiest Workplace by AIA Vitality Survey 2018 for Malaysia, 50.2% of employees have at least one dimension of work-related stress. However, it remains largely unrecognized, unacknowledged and undetected due to - 1) Lack of understanding about mental health care, 2) Ignorance, fear and stigma associated with psychological distress.
PROBLEM
Poor stress management leads to disintegration and mental illness, eg. anxiety and depression.
INSIGHT
People are less likely to be aware of work-related stress or they intentionally ignored it as a significant health and safety issue.
SOLUTION
Create a self survival kit that encourages proper stress management, educate people on how to deal with work related stress to prevent relapse and avoid triggers.
CONCEPT & IDEA
It was inspired by the term “save for a rainy day, so that you will not be afraid of storms" which means be always stay prepared to avoid unforeseen difficulty. The origin of this term is literally related to rainy day, people tend to avoid getting wet so that waterproof products are needed, also, rain diminishes sunlight, it creates human emotions of darkness and depression. Therefore, I decided to use "waterproof packaging" for the kit, to deliver the message that it's important to be covered and protected. The kit consist of three items: an educational booklet, stress relief essential oil and anti-stress outfit (raincoat).
The raincoat was designed to be an anti-stress outfit, we encourage people to take a picture of themselves wearing the outfit and share it on their social media platform, in order to raise mental health awareness to the society.
