Taking Apart, Putting Back Together
Recycled materials Sculptures
When given the task to choose five objects that represent home, I had no problem quickly deciding which objects to use. However, once viewing the objects aligned together, I noticed they each were linked in some way to the relationship I have with my mother. Some were used as items of escape, a mental break; others symbolized the pressures I felt from her while growing up. In this piece I used these items to represent the relationship I have with her. While our relationship is comforting at first, and sometime escapable, in the overall scheme of things, our relationship has become unraveled over the years.
These pieces were created for a course I took called "Recyclables." The course focused on the reuse of existing materials and creatively transforming them into sculptural objects. All the materials used in these pieces were found at one of my favorite hot-spots to get materials from, the ReUse Center, Ann Arbor.
