Project Recreate is a collaboration with my colleague at Adobe, Brian Yap. Brian invited artists to recreate a drawing they originally made as young children. In second grade, our teacher, Mr.s Adams, had us write a fact in a notebook related to a notable event in history on that specific date. For the day the vacuum cleaner was patented, I chose to illustrate this factoid with a drawing of an insect vacuuming. I have no idea why. Anyway, here above is the “recreated” illustration for the project, drawn in Adobe Fresco, in which I placed the insect in a mid-century modern home with a window looking out over a lovely French/Italian garden. Below, I have included the sketch for this illustration, along with the original drawing from 1983, drawn when I was 8 years old.
