DUKAAN (The Shop)
We were commissioned by dear friends Sidharth and Garima to make a concept poster for the official announcement of their directorial debut - Dukaan, a Hindi film based on the commercial surrogacy industry in Gujarat.
Sid-Garima wanted the poster to reveal the core concept in a metaphoric illustration without being literal. They also wanted elements of Gujarat and Indian kitch.
We took cues from Indian street art and made an illustration of a baby in a womb within the outlined sketch of the Gujarat state. The title was then developed in Indian truck art/comic/kitch style with supporting elements like the peacocks, flying kites and devanagri titles. We deliberately chose orange and high contrasted it with saturated purple and greens to bring out the Indian mishmash.
