For my Bachelor's thesis, I designed a touchscreen interface for restaurants where the entire table is an interactive surface.
On this surface, customers can view the menu, customize it according to their dietary preferences, order and pay. They can even customize the look of the table.
The design was set up and tested in a way that ensured the application could be used by anyone, without needing instructions. The navigation was done using images, instead of text.
