A getai (歌台)(literally song stage), is a usually boisterous live stage performance held during the Ghost Festival commonly held during the 7th month of the Lunar calendar in Singapore.
The stage setup is usually composed of temporary structures and situated in the suburbs of the city in any empty field or even in parking spaces or housing estate.In the past, performances were usually Chinese operas or puppet shows.
The performances are meant to be for the spirits but also for people during the seventh month.
As we continue to advance in as a fast-paced generation, we gradually lose our identity as Singaporeans, with cultural activities such as Getai getting less popular among the youth of today.
I partnered up with fellow Communication Designer- Yee Ling, to make people more aware of their cultural roots .
