Blackberry BB10 Music Player UI

This is my first time doing a project about interaction design, mobile os and/or UI. So, I don’t really know if I’m doing this right or everything I’ve done is already used, proven wrong or just outdated. The only thing I know is that I had a lot of fun while doing it, I learned a bunch of new things, and I hope you can enjoy it too.

I decided to go with the Q10 because I’m a Blackberry 8520 user, I can’t live without the QWERTY keyboard and the 1:1 aspect ratio of the screen is just amazing for a guy that loves symmetry like me.

The concept I worked with from day one was trying to be able to use the music player as much as possible without having to look at it, because I don’t think music has to be seen, it has to be listened to.

I’m not a guy that has music on his phone. Until a month ago, I used an iPod 3rd Gen for a lot of years, and now I’m using a Sansa Clip+ with Rockbox (OS). It’s pretty important to me that I know the music player like the back of my hand and the reason for that is because I mostly use it when I’m walking in the street and when I’m in bed. Two situations that I don’t want to be looking at a tiny screen.

I tried, with the help of basic gestures, to make the basic actions as simple an intuitive as possible, so the target user can learn it and understand it very quickly.

I also tried to give it a shot at the social part of music, but instead of going the objetive way (if you and your friends like X, you probably like Y) I went the subjective way. Using tags you think they’re appropiate for a certain song may help you find new/similar music you might like.
