This is the second poster of three I've designed for Kings Of Leon's 2017 summer tour via Nakatomi Inc. (See more here.) It's a 12x18" three color screenprint designed to recall a mid-80s VHS cassette cover for a cheesy erotic thriller or new wave slasher flick. Something with Eric Roberts in the late 80s/early 90s golden age of Cinemax.
The idea was sparked by the band's suggestion that we incorporate cherries into our artwork. Apparently the cherry as visual motif goes way back with Kings of Leon and they wanted this series to represent that in some way. My challenge was to strive to find ever-more-clever ways to express that without just tacking some cherries onto the composition superficially. I wanted them where possible to drive (or at least copilot) the concept as well.
This was the first concept I had for what would start as 3 but end up being 5 designs total for KoL during their 2017 US tour. They really, really responded to where my head was at with these and seemed to like that I tend to like to design in a variety of styles.
