Salon Refurbishment, April - May 2016
The Brief

A hair salon in Albrighton, Shropshire, was looking for a solution to make the best use of space in order to expand the business by creating more work stations and at the same time give the shop interior a facelift for the 10th anniversary of the business.
The Design

After surveying the building and considering the budget to work to the most cost effective solution was to remove the awkward angled partition, which created a wasted tight corner behind the main desk and replacing it with a straight stud wall allowing room for an additional three work stations on the opposite side with access from either end. Electrics were rerouted to allow power to each station and new lighting.
Maintaining the existing black and white colour scheme, the walls were given a fresh coat of paint and skirting boards painted grey. As part of the facelift the existing mirrors and sheet metal work tops were removed and replaced with more modern single piece mirrors and kick boards with integrated glass shelves. With the previous style the white walls were frequently marked by shoes, the kick boards act as protection and do not show the marks.
The project came in under budget, at approximately £9K, the additional profits from having the additional work stations recovered the cost to the business very quickly.
