Summary
This project was assigned for Illustration of Spring 2018 at Weber State University as our third project during the course. This project, "IP3: Portrait or Caricature", required us to choose a celebrity or an athlete competing in the 2018 Olympics to represent in a stylized illustration, where it would be "used" as a Rolling Stone cover for their next issue. This was not meant to be a real published cover, but a mock-magazine cover for assignment purposes.

My subject is the 2018 Men's Figure Skating gold medalist, Yuzuru Hanyu, making history at the latest Olympics, shattering the competition, receiving gold in both the 2014 and 2018 Olympics.

Working with themes of shattering records, like ice or glass, focus on blues and orange for contrast, and emphasizing in mark making, incorporating it into my illustrative style, this is the final result of many weeks of revisions, critique, and finding a good process in going from a few rough thumbnails on cheap paper into a large project.
Process
After initial sketches, all versions were created in Autodesk Sketchbook Pro on a Samsung Galaxy Tab, with text / logo of the publication added in through Photoshop.
