________________________________
This week's task was to create a five panelled comic that depicted an event that happened during school.

The event I chose was when my friend and I received our maths assignments to find that we had both gotten the same mark. We went in for a high five but instead proceeded to slap each other in the face. What are the chances of that?

For each drawing, I used a combination of 0.38mm and 0.28mm black gel pens and a 0.8mm white gel pen. I first thumbnailed the panels and worked out the arrangement. Then, I uploaded the thumbnail and digitally sketched the comic. After I had a solid sketch, I printed out the sketch and inked it by hand using my iPad as a DIY lightbox. I decided to only shade the things that were dark i.e. my hair, eyes, and the uniform. I went with cross-hatching that faded into solid black as that would mimic the tartan pattern of the uniform. Any mistakes that were made were drawn over with the white pen.

Technique0.38mm and 0.28mm Black Gel Pens and a 0.8mm White Gel Pen on Drawing Paper
Process: I started with a sketch that I transferred to a sheet of drawing paper. I started inking the eyes first moving out from there to the main outline. Then I went back in a did the hair. After detailing the hair, I moved onto the uniform. I used hatching to get some shading in the fabric and because the hatching looks similar to the uniform tartan pattern. Any areas that I accidentally drew into, I went over with my white gel pen to remove the errors. Finally, I inked the border.
Reflection: My left eye is a bit crooked and maybe I could have shaded the hand but I was afraid to take a leap of faith. I have a specific stylistic design in my head for the shading in this comic. I will only shade the skin under the chin as that tends to be the darkest point aside from under the nose. I'm really proud of this although it is a bit crooked. A real pen is just not as stable as a digital one.

Panel 2
!!
Since my friend's hair was brown and significantly lighter that mine, I lined her hair in a way that shows the locks, After detailing the hair, I moved onto the uniform. I used hatching to get some shading in the fabric and because the hatching looks similar to the uniform tartan pattern. Any areas that I accidentally drew into, I went over with my white gel pen to remove the errors. Finally, I inked the border.
Reflection: The first two panels are a bit side heavy but I wasn't sure what to shade in order to rectify it. I'm liking the texture of my friend's hair. I should draw hair like that more often .

Panel 3
Woo!
Technique: 0.38mm and 0.28mm Black Gel Pens and a 0.8mm White Gel Pen on Drawing Paper
Process: The process is going to be the exact same as the one above it. I started with a sketch that I transferred to a sheet of drawing paper.
Reflection: I made a mistake on my nose. whoops. I'm not too happy with the faces on this panel. My profile looks off. I think is because my brow and eyes are too high on the face.

Panel 4
High Five!
Technique: 0.38mm and 0.28mm Black Gel Pens and a 0.8mm White Gel Pen on Drawing Paper
Reflection: I'm really proud of this one! There are a couple of shaky lines around the mouths that I probably could have cleaned up with the white pen.

Oof
Technique: 0.38mm and 0.28mm Black Gel Pens and a 0.8mm White Gel Pen on Drawing Paper
Process: I started with a sketch that I transferred to a sheet of drawing paper. I started inking the eyes first moving out from there to the main outline. Then I went back in a did the hair. Reflection: Again, not too happy with the faces and some of the outlines on the arms are a bit thick. This was the set of images that I spent way too much time on trying to get right.
