Outdoor Cinema and Performance Market
with Michelle Whiticar

A play of nature and reality through media. The pixelated landscape creates realms of temporal immersion from the reality. The ground fragmentation imitates a terraced landscape that creates an opportunity to circulate within.

A conceptual project for a site in Broadway at Cambie Street in Vancouver, British Columbia. The design challenge is to create a theatre for 250 people and a market to accommodate the busy transit junction.
Perspective
With the theme skin as the media, we have incorporated elements of digital media in every scale. The anchoring element features an outdoor cinema by projecting motion pictures to the membrane of the structure.
The Landscape

From its existing built form, the  gesture resembles a ramp that reconnects the front and back edge of the site while the center dips down to connect to the basement level of the pavilion.
