Cat Detectives is a kid's book by young Czech writer Petra Löwy Matušková, my precious wife. The formal language of book is for children, but the story follows the storylines of 90's action movies. Two cat detectives investigate disappearance of nightingale and discover conspiracy of evil city major who controls the forest and city through over-musculed pigeons. Action and fight scenes included.
The ink drawings with wash are dynamic and caricature features of characters. Dark blue and white colouring of drawings underline the detective atmosphere of the story.
The duo-tone colouring on illustrations is a solution from typographer Martin T. Pecina, who graphically designed the book. The book overlaps to the visual language of comics, where strong typography meets the drawings.
