Fight For Flight

Posters in context on the effects of consumerism on birds.

The Crowned Crane (Crested Crane of Uganda) depicts the effects of fishing and litter on wetland bird species. The birds become tangled and trapped in fishing nets and other discarded forms of rubbish, preventing them from flying and eating. These birds are unable to forage for food and ultimately die from the injuries they inflict when attempting to escape and from starvation.

The Black Tern depicts the effects of oil spills and water pollution on sea, coastal and wetland bird species. Many birds source their food beneath the water, diving into oil coated water. The oil coats the feathers of the birds causing them to lose their ability to stay waterproof and warm. The oil can be ingested, poisoning them and render the bird flightless and unable to remain buoyant.

The detailed drawings were produced using pigment ink pointillism, a process consisting of hundreds of thousands of dots.
