Stabile vs unstable

This work was made for a contemporary textile art exhibition, organized by 'Miniartextil' in Como, Italy. The theme was: BORDERLINE

Stabile vs unstable
The main theme of my work is constant change and variability, reflecting both on the mood changes of borderline personality and on the different ways of perceiving the social and political significance of borders between countries. The piece, in its vulnerability, sensitivity and imperfection, represents a relationship with an established system. The constant presence of the possibility of change makes the system unstable.
The cube is made both by needlework and machine sewing; its edges are stretched on a wire frame. The two parallel edges of the cube are curved towards and away from the straight line respectively via the bend of the wire, and that is why it is easy to shift the cube and end its stability. The stitches are slightly different on each side of the cube, yet the applied technique was the same. One of the sides is open so as to invite associations, such as dissembling, dismantling, collapse, imperfection…
