HeyMath! - An Interactive Textbook

HeyMath is an edutech company that design fun math tools for kids in schools. This project was was done as part of internship at HeyMath wherein rather simply converting a paper based textbook in a e-book format, certain interactions were designed that took advantage of the digital medium while at the same time conveying all the information a normal textbook would. The below images showcase a few screens of the textbook design that I worked on:
The menu gives a preview of the number of bookmarks in that particular lesson and also the progress of the student's practice questions.
The lessons comprise of videos and notes in the form of text for quick revision and reference.
The student/teacher can navigate from one section to another of a particular chapter using this menu.
The scratchpad enables the students to do their rough work and work out problems.
The lessons would be followed by practice exercises to check the student's understanding of the lesson.
The teachers can view the progress of their student's exercises in their view :
The student/teacher can make notes at anywhere in the textbook as shown:
All the notes in a section can be viewed in the options menu as shown:
Teachers can add additional information in the form of pdfs, photos or web links that the students can refer to.
There would also be a social aspect to the textbook in the form of a discussion forum where the students can discuss their doubts with their peers or their teachers
The chat feature would enable students to get real time responses from their peers. The inclusion of this feature was debated upon since it could prove to a distraction to the student but on the other hand it could also assist effective peer learning as well. It was hence included.
