The Seven Rila Lakes are a group of glacial lakes in the Rila Mountains. The lakes are located between 2,100 and 2,500 meters above sea level. This series of images show "Bliznaka" lake (2,243 m) and "Haramiata" peak (2,465 m).

The Seven Rila Lakes are a tourist attraction due to their natural environment and are the most visited group of lakes in Bulgaria in the summer when the temperatures are higher but I wanted to see what they look like in the winter when the water is frozen but not yet covered with snow. Lakes usually freeze in October and do not melt before June. The ice cover can reach up to 2 meters. The landscape impress with forms, shapes, lights and various shades of icy blue showing another side of this natural phenomenon.

The pictures in the series were taken during two consecutive winter seasons (2016 and 2017).
