Senior Thesis: Book Publication

For my senior thesis, I chose to create a book retelling folklores and urban legends from Central and South America.
With the cover page, I wanted to play with the text and what were ways to make the text interesting and give a somewhat scary feel to it.
After playing with the text and imagery, I decided to redraw the skull to make it a complete so that the image can fully be seen when you spread out the front and back cover.
After my initial research of the stories and the book dimensions, I created a few layouts and decided on something simple and kept the writing to a minimum to have the age of the audience more open to anyone. I created a pronunciation key underneath each of the chapter titles so anyone could say the titles and had the text translated into Spanish to include the original audience of the stories.
For the illustrations, I drew out and colored each of the main focuses of the stories in pen and scanned them. As this was my first time using watercolor, I wanted to have copies of the the original ink drawings in case something were to happen.
