James the Pizza Boy

James the Pizza Boy
A mobile game concept created in collaboration with Blair Adams. Together we created a story of a pizza delivery boy bent on saving the world... from terrible fad diet flavored pizza. Blair illustrated the characters and supporting artwork, while I worked on the animations and UI for the game. We wanted to have a distinct look and feel for the characters while acknowledging our influence of retro gaming with the 8-bit inspired UI.

My goal for the UI was to create an interface that referenced the character and story. We decided that using a Google Maps like interface for the level selection would hearken to the fact that our main character was a pizza delivery boy and he was constantly using Google Maps to get around.

Where the story started
Originally our idea was to create a game where kale turned people into zombies. After some consideration we weren't too stoked on the idea. As we continued to brainstorm we thought it would be funny to show the phrase, "you are what you eat." So we found a few fad diets, decided to personify each one, and create a story about a pizza boy having to defend his pizza store from the constantly changing fad diets. Below you can view the trailer we put together for this story.
