CogBooks is an adaptive learning platform that personalises the content for learners as they progress through a course. Designing an authoring tool for an adaptive platform is quite different from other course authoring tools since in an adaptive platform apart from writing the content and structuring it, creating links between various concepts (represented as objects in the UI) is the core of an adaptive system. It is these links that make an adaptive learning platform effective because, they guide the learner through different learning paths based on their interests and their understanding levels.
As the lead UX designer I was responsible for designing the authoring tool from ground up. For the interaction design of the authoring tool we focused on a mobile-first approach since a lot of our target users were using iPads to create the content.
