There’s a moment in Hugo Kitching’s new documentary “A Year in the Life of a Twig Eater” when the drama comes into sharp relief. It’s late winter, and Kitching, who spent a year following and filming a mother moose and two calves through the wilds of Jasper National Park, comes across the aftermath of epic battle between predator and prey. – Nicole Schmidt
The illustration was inked by hand and then all the colour was added digitally. It was really great, although at times infuriating, experimenting with all this detail and this slightly newer technique. Really happy with how it turned out. I’ll have to add more pink lines in some upcoming illustrations!
I really enjoyed trying to make documentary filmmaker Hugo Kitching’s search for these secretive animals feel magical. Thanks for letting me go crazy with all the detail Steven Balaban! What a great excuse to gaze at amazing photos of flowers and landscapes from Jasper National Park in the Canadian Rockies though! I must try and get out West sometime soon!
