Portrait in Jazz CD Booklet

In this class assignment, our goal was to come up with an original and intriguing design that reflects the music of the album. Because the Bill Evans Trio was one of the first musical trios to place an equal importance on each instrument in their music, I decided to focus on using abstract images of the instruments throughout my layout. The back of the booklet serves as a decorative poster, while the front of the booklet lays out all of the content from the original CD booklet for Portrait in Jazz. What truly makes this a unique design is that all of the instruments were created by combining characters of a single typeface: P22 Bifur. This typeface, like the music from the Bill Evans Trio, is made up of three simple elements: Single thick strokes, like the keys of a piano Circles, like the drums of a drum set Series of thin strokes, like the strings of a bass
