Concept
The Urban Grunge concept was inspired by the provision stores and the back alley. PVS carry out their store concept strongly, based on an American provision store concept. Through a short survey that I had conducted, many people have thought that PVS is an American based boutique, which mainly because of their store design concept and the many international brands that they have brought in. Thus, through this assignment, I would like to add some local flavors into the pop-up store by merging in elements and inspirations gained from our very own local provision shop.
To merge urban grunge and provision shop, I had chosen to focus on the back alley which is also the back area of most traditional local provision shops. This is the area where most of the shop owners would usually place their used stuff and leftover packaging, such as the traditional metal biscuit tins, used food cans and drinks bottles there.
The main highlight of my pop-up store was the water pipes that we have seen in most alleys. I had developed and transformed these water pipes into a fixture to display the shoes, by attaching them onto the backdrop. At the foreground, it was featured with a few biscuit tins to display the Snapbacks. Furthermore, I had also created a cemented flooring and a combination of cement and bricks backdrop to enhance the back alley look.
