''London is an amazing place'' BLOG

In this project I am going to create something which highlights the fact that London is an amazing place.
Idea Proposal
I am a creative media student who passionate about graphic design and photography. Most of my designs are inspired by different graphic designers and architects. In this project I am going to use my Photoshop skills to create, design something which will be based around London.
Project: Street ball in London

For this project I am going to make an advertising campaign for a street ball tournament in London. The campaign is going to have posters and leaflets which are going to inform people about the tournament.  In my research I am going to search for different graphic designers, so I can inspire myself over their work. I am also going to research about poster layouts and typography.
The reason why I am doing this campaign is because I play basketball and I believe that more people should get involved in this sport. Making a basketball tournament in London, I believe will attract a lot of players and also spectators.
The audience for my project is going to be boy and girl 16-25. The reason why the tournament is not for younger people is because the tournament is going to be too intense and younger people might end up injured.

Design Brief
For my final major project I'll have to design something which is linked to this quote: ''If you're curious London is an amazing place''. Here are my ideas:
-London buildings and architecture
-London Museums
-London recreation parks
-London sports life- Football, basketball, cricket
-Basketball- london basktball leagues- outdoor basketball-pick up games.
-basketball courts in London- This is my best idea therefore I am going to research on this and I am also going to research on graphic designers to inspire my work. Basketball is a famous sport in american cities, however this sport is also played in London. Usually people prefer to play this sport indoor , however streetballers play it outdoor as a lot of people get invloved . In the park people get togheter and pick up their players and build up a team. Winner stayes on is usually applied .This game helps everyone make new friend , build up confidence and keeps them fit. In my project I am going to create something to do with streetball in London.

Inspiration
Today I have looked at a designer called Candy Chang .I have analysed one of her projects called ''BEFORE I DIE" . In this project she made the community get involved in expressing their feelings and helped them tell eachother their dreams. Candy found an abandoned house near the city where she lives. She covered the outside walls of this house white black board material. She wrote ''before i die'' using a stencil and underneath she wrote it few more times to make space for people to write with chalk. This project became something big and it happened in different countries such as France , Argentina and Brazil.
Her work inspired me because her work is very interactive and she uses her audience to create the artwork. Chalk is a very textured component, which can be very effective in a design. At this stage in my designing I am considering to use chalk in work as it reminds me of the streets and is a very urban component which can be linked/associated with outdoor basketball.

Research
Today I've started researching about outdoor basketball. First thing that I have found was a documentary about New York outoor basketball. The documentary was called Doin.it in the park. This documentary was made by too photographers and film makers.  These two went to every single basketball court in New York and played pick up basketball. This film shows the basketball facilities in New York , which show what a great city it is. The movie has highlights of best basketballers and their moves . Most parks where full of strettballers and crowds watching the games.
This documentary Is very useful to me , because it has the same theme as my idea . It is also useful because it gave me few ideas of settings and backgrounds which i am going to be using in my designs

Research: basketball and graphics. Logo
Today I have looked at different  exsiting basketball graphic designs. Per example i have looked at the NBA logo. The NBA logo is one of the most recognised logos in sport because is simple and eye-catching. The logo was inspired by a photo of Jerry West taken during a game. The photo inspired Alan Siegel and later on he designed the NBA logo which looks similar to the photo of Jerry West. This is what he said about the photo:''It was dynamic, it was vertical, it captured the essence of the game.''
The logo was designed using only three colours which were blue red and white which represent the colours of the american flag. The logo is separarated using blue and red which represent East and West Coast- (Teams in NBA are separated in 2 conferences - west and east ) The player in the middle is made of a solid colour(white) . NBA is also written on the logo . The font is simple and readable .

Colours: basketball is a very masculine, intensive game. The game is full of pressure hard work, and entertainment. I think that the colours for my project should be dark and sharp to stand out. When I say the word street ball I think about the street colours which are grey and I also think about a bright orange from the basketball. In my project I am mostly going to use dark colours, however I will also be using few bright colours.

Today I went outside and I have taken a few photos of myself playing basketball. The photos show different basketball actions, such as dribbling, scoring, shooting and jumping. When I was moving around the court I had to position my body the right way so the photos come up good.

today i've been thinking more about my target audience and how i can design the posters to make them appealing to my audience. I 've also been thinking about how I can link the photos with typography to make them more  street and eye -catching.

24/02/2016-24/03/2016
From now on i've planned myslef a productive and hardworking month on this project . Here is the timetable showing things I am going to do the next month .
first week: design logo for the street ball tournament
second week: choose photos and start making few posters.
third week: add typography to the posters and finsihing touches.
fourth week: make small questionnaire and ask people what they think about the posters.

First week:
firstly i had to design the poster for the final designs. Using photoshop and one of my research photos , i have managed to create my final logo. The logo is made up of a black and red basketball with WIlson writen on it . Wilson will be the name of the campaign so I believe that the logo is appropriate.
The photo of the basketball was very high in brightness , reason why i had to add more contrast to it. Also i changed it's saturation to make it look more textured.

seond week:
this week i have been takeing more photos and i even recorded myself playing basketball. from the video i have taken few screenshots and I have managed to capture some basketball actions sucha s jumping and dribbling.
This week i have made few posters which i believe that can be combined to make a final poster.

third  week.
now i am thinking about the typography which i am going to use for my poster and leaflets. i think that basketball is an urban sport so a graphitti font or street font would look good on the posters and leaflte. I'll have to make sure that I use a readable font and the size should be big enough to be seen from far . Also i should use sharp dark colours and add stroke to the letter to make it stand out.
i think that the posters look good and eye-catching . i have used a cartoon effect on the images and also i added a small stroke to the text. The posters include information about the tournament such as the venue, rules and name.

At the end i've decided to make 3 posters instead of one leaflet and a poster. Here are the final posters.
