Visual Identity for Naples

Visual identity for the city of Naples, re-imagining it beyond the usual stereotypes and clichés.

Thesis project in Graphic and Communication, born from the idea of changing the distorted image of the city, popular but misguided, not just to look better to tourists, but for its people.











"More than a culture" / "Più di una cultura"

With this idea in mind, creating something that would celebrate the city's character, my starting point was just to focus on one important aspect of the history of Naples: foreign dominations that, over the centuries, marked story's city and influenced the character of Neapolitans. Naples is not just one culture, but it is a thousand different cultures. Visual identity's payoff "More than a culture" – Più di una cultura – derives from this concept, it must therefore be able to fully reflect it.


Pattern

The pattern is composed by twelve icons, made revisiting in a creative way the coats of arms and flags of the Kingdom of Naples. I found in them the most interesting and attractive signs, and then I reworked them.
