I've played in over 15 bands and run my own so I can say with confidence that if you ever come across a band where each member contributes significantly in multiple ways, holds down their parts, and enjoys the others' company then you're looking at a rare sight. Musicians are quirky, introverted, cyclical, subjectively opinionated, and in this economy, cynical. That's why I love Tell The Wolves. They're doing what they love, the way they wanna do it, with the people they wanna do it with. You can see it on stage. You can hear it in their music. I love it. They'll be releasing their debut record, The Great Design, at this show, February 16th at Harlows. I raise my glass.
I don't remember if Zack and I even had a phone chat about it after I agreed to do it. I just got a text saying, 'we want a psychedelic wolf', and I drew it. I envision him trapped in this swamp cage captive or under summon from some warlock, when a PETA wizard in some nearby fortuitous circumstance gifts him (and his other captive peers scattered about) laser eyes with which to break free. Or maybe, you wrote a story of your own in your head when you saw it. That is the accidental accomplishment of any art piece you or I love; multiple interpretations, meanings, stories. You've done it before with your favorite songs, paintings, and poems.
