Mars Bloom was an installation piece done while I was attending school, as a project for an advanced sculpture class. My requirements were completely open...my only goal was to use liquid latex and light in some way. After many concepts and a lot of trial and error with the latex, I finally came up with this piece. The idea evolved into a strange installation that showed a flower as it might bloom on Mars. It stayed up for approximately 6 months and acted as a great visual/lighting source for a number of events.
