UTSC Environmental Science and Chemistry Building

The Environmental Science & Chemistry Building recently opened its doors for the start of the academic year at the University of Toronto Scarborough. Designed by Diamond Schmitt Architects and built by EllisDon, the building has five floors of lab space, offices, and classrooms that connect around a skylit forum and crossroads.

The architectural character of masonry and curtainwall extends an identity established by the Instructional Centre, also designed by Diamond Schmitt.

Targeting LEED Gold the building features geothermal boreholes, an Earth Tube system to supply 100 per cent fresh air to the administrative wing, unique fritted glazing to minimize solar heat gain, all LED lighting fixtures and a high performance curtainwall.
