Secret-7 take 7 tracks from 7 of the best-known musicians around and press each one 100 times to 7” vinyl. They then invite creatives from around the world to interpret the tracks in their own style for every 7”. 700 sleeves are exhibited and then sold for £50 apiece. Two of my designs were selected by the jury to be exhibited in Sommerset House in London this year. 

 

The track which inspired my designs was Born Slippy by Underworld. I was attracted to the element of nostalgia I associated with it, and the fragmented lyrics with repetitive words lead me to take a typographic approach. The song to me seemed so powerful in its beats and lyrics, I wanted to explore the use of bold colour and type. I love the fact that the song was written by Karl Hyde in a drunken state, so decided to work with words and phrases, distorting these to visualise the confused lyrics.
