This book cover for the children’s book ‘Carries War’ by Nina Bawden features ambiguous imagery from the main-story which would only be recognisable to someone who has read the story.
The image focuses on the natural joins on the back of the human skull, but is represented through the use of train-tracks, illustrating another key element of the book.
The typeface Gill Sans has been used on the cover to recreate the time period that the story is based in, and the simple colour-pallet does not distract away from the main image.
