Website Redesign

Puget Sound Computer Science Teachers Association (PSCSTA)

In a small team we were tasked with redesigning the Puget Sound Computer Science Teachers Association (PSCSTA) website which was built in Google’s Blogger at the time and had received many complaints from teachers and students about its hard to navigate structure.

We spent time researching and learning about the PSCSTA, building prototypes, usability testing and then finally implementing the final version in WordPress (which is being used today). Most of my contributions focused on the user research, prototype implementation in Axure, and final implementation in WordPress.

Our process started with user research including surveys, and interviews. From this research we identified two personas, Dedicated Daniel (teacher) and Analytical Andy (student). Both of these personas were based on data, and built collaboratively in Illustrator.
We involved current users in an online card sort, using the Optimal Sort tool. We also met many times with stakeholders to revise the information architecture and went through numerous revisions. With this data in hand we were able to drastically reduce the number of items in the main navigation.
                                         Original navigation.
                             Updated navigation.
You can view the fully implemented website at http://pscsta.org, the home page is also shown below.
