Seven Islands – Sand Animation Promo
Seven Islands is an international Scotch whisky made by a BenRiach and the Tilaknagar an Indian company owns the brand. When they launch this product in south India (Chennai) the brand like to have an event to promote their product and by as a part of the event they wanted a promo video which should be creative to exhibited the core idea of their product “A fusion of Indian design and Scottish spirit”. So, when I was working on IDEAHEAVENS experimental animation studio the brand approached and asked for a promo video which should be completely done using sand painting methodology (sand animation) and it should demonstrating their main moto fusion and also the concept of traveling of the brand all over from the Scott to southern path of India. So based on their idea, myself as a 2D animator and as a compositor along with one of my colleague Mr. Vinsish a sand animator worked together under a guidance of Mr. Praveen chrispugg (creative director) and successfully completed the project in 3 days.
Process: The sand painting was done on alight box and we captured them as a stop motion photograph at 16FPS and we separated the sand painting into different layers like foreground, background, mid-ground, partials, waves, etc. and recorded and captured separately as a different shoots and footages. Later all the footages were brought inside Aftereffects and color and lighting was matched and then the different layers were composited according to their need and also small elements like seeds are animated in the aftereffects using the photographs and matched to the animation of waves and transitions. The final output was around 130 seconds.
The client was happy and it was new experience and learning for me about sand animation.
