Granite Bench Design

I was contacted about designing a memorial granite bench for my client's late wife who passed on after a battle with cancer. The engravers had been paid, but the client had some difficulty getting a design he wanted to live with that represented the connection he has with his wife.

I agreed to the project, and made sure my client was on board with every stage of the design.
After speaking with the engraver about the final requirements (Adobe Illustrator file) and getting a feel for a good starting point, I began sketching various bridges from my imagination, books, magazines, and from the web.
The client settled on "Country Bridge #2" and I demostrated variations on that concept with different angles, posts, connecting architecture, and bridge material.
The client chose this design.
The client provied some patters and artwork from the web and I used that as a spring board to lay out the design. I checked with the engraver to make sure I knew the final dimensions and made sure the design spanned across the back of the bench without getting up to or over the edge.
With the bridge, patterns, and other elements in place, the client requested I include his family standing on the bridge as a silhouette.
This is the full panel before it was redesigned to remove the empty sections.
This is the final design, with names and years removed as requested by the client.
The design engraved on the granite bench.
